Don't be in temper, to leave so quickly, that I may be dying. But all too soon, the leaves and debris will gather elsewhere.

About This Quote

The above quote is one of the more impassioned works of the great William Shakespeare. The speaker of this poem is speaking to his wife, who has just accused him of having an affair with another woman. He has not been home all day, and she has heard that he has been looking for her. She is mad because he has not bothered to explain himself to her, but instead, he rushes out to try to find her.

He is mad that she would think something so terrible about him, but he also has a certain sadness about his leaving. The speaker says that he does not want her to know what he is doing because it will make her sad on top of mad. He admits that she will probably be angry at him for leaving, but he is only trying to save her from knowing something she would feel very badly about.
